Charonia variegata (Lamarck, 1816)
Ch. tritonis displayed in front of a shop in Elounda. The shell differs from that of seguenzae by its much larger size and the reddish colour of the mouth. From that of variegata it differs by the constant lack of knobby shoulders and by the larger size.

10-15 m deep, in the sands around Cayémites western reef, about 3 km from Petite Cayémite, Corail, Grand’Anse. 290mm.
A Charonia variegata devoid of marked knobby shoulder from Palmeira, Sal island, Cabo Verde archipelago. 230mm. The shell of this species differs from that of seguenzae by its constantly more expansed last whorl.
18m deep, on rock, Punta de Abajo, Callao Salvaje, SW. coast of Tenerife island, Canarias. 260mm.
