Stygobiont. In karstic streams of the Gardon (or Gard) lower drainage basin. Animal eyeless and depigmented. Original taxon: Pseudamnicola klemmi. Specimen sampled in sediments collected in siphon, Grotte de Pâques, Collias, Gard, by M. Rosello (2000). Altitude ≈ 40m. This cave is one of the numerous
re-emergences of the underground Gardon river. 2mm. The species-name honours the purposeful and hard-working zoologist Walter Klemm (1898–1981), famous for his vast knowledge of European land and freshwater snails, thanks to Dr. R. Sturany who steered him towards malacology. |
A rather variable species, but always short-spired, stocky, with a very developed last whorl and a deep suture. Same spot. 1,7mm. |
