Haliotis stomatiaeformis Reeve, 1846
Distribution: Canale di Sicilia, from Lampedusa & Malta to southern coast of Sicily.
Size up to 45mm.

Above and below: 22m deep, by dive, Bahar ic-Caghaq, Naxxa, Malta. 22,5mm.
Type locality (New Zealand) led to confuse this species with young specimens of squamata Reeve.
The taxon was then considered as a synonym. Even today, one can discover small "stomatiaeformis"
in some dealers's lists, often coming from Indonesia. 21,5mm.
