Haliotis squamosa J.E. Gray, 1826
Distribution: Southern end of Madagascar.
Size to 90mm. Shallow water.

Reddish and flat shell, with strong cords that are visible on ventral side.
Each cord is finely ribbed, or bears minute scales. The species varies little.
Tôlanaro (Faradofay), SE. of Toliara, 50mm.
Again Toliara area, under stones in shallow water, 56mm.
Australian H. elegans Philippi, 1874 is more elongated, with a spire that is not visible in ventral side.
Dark specimen from Toliara area. On rocks, Lavanono, 77mm.
