Distribution: Indonesia to North-west Australia.
Size to 99mm. Lower intertidal and shallow subtidal.

Some features that distinguish squamata from diversicolor s.s :
"A more highly arched shell and stronger, more scaly spiral ribbing" (Owen).
At low tide under slabs, Broome, West Australia. 48-57mm.
Variations in sculpture. Same spot, 49-58mm. The brown shell shows strong radial accretion lines.
