Thyasira striata (Sturany, 1896) |
Deep water E. Mediterranean. Chemosymbiotic. Original taxon: Axinus flexuosus var. striatus. 2040m deep, on Amsterdam mud volcano (25°20'N - 30°15'E), Anaximander ridge, S. Turkey. 5mm. |
Axinus flexuosus var. striatus in R. Sturany: “Zoologische Ergebnisse VII. Mollusken I”, Denkschriften der Kaiserlichen Akademie… 63,
plate. I, Wien 1896, via the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien, and holotype NHMW 13009. « From station 82 (2420m); one right valve. The shell’s stronger concentric
stripes, the position of the umbo moved further to the front than in the type specimen [i.e. Axinus flexuosus s.s.], and the lesser arched ventral margin require a separation of this form as a
variety of Axinus flexuosus Mont. and also suggest a certain relation to Axinus sarsii Phil., which was only found in the north to this date. »
