Iceland & Norway to NW. Africa, Madeira to Mediterranean. Continental edge and upper slope. Original taxon: Lima crassa. Synonym: sarsii Lovén, 1846. « Lima (Limatula) crassa: shell equilateral, ovate, white, thick, subdepressed, entirely closed, longitudinally ribbed with crenulated costae; ears of equal strength, umbones prominent. » – E. « Limea Sarsii n. – Shell subglobose, rounded ovate, subequilateral, not gaping (“undique clausa”), radially adorned with numerous rounded, elevated costae, which are covered with imbricated squamae arising from concentric lamellae; cardinal margin loosely oblique, entirely straight, with about 15 teeth on each side; fovea ligamenti triangular; the area slightly concave, longitudinally striated; umbones a little prominent; margin crenated; costae obsolete on the sides, and marked in the middle (circa 10). » – S.
