S. Portugal to W. Africa, Azores to Mediterranean. Suspension feeder, in crevices and under stones, or nested inside Posidonia mats (tangled vegetal beds under the meadows), in the infralittoral and the circalittoral. Some very close species exist in W. Atlantic and Indian Ocean. – Shallow infralittoral, calanque de Pouars, Calseraigne island, Riou archipelago, south of Marseille, Provence, S. France.
