Diplodonta brocchii (Deshayes, 1850) |
Portugal to Mediterranean, on coralligenous bottoms of continental shelf. Original taxon: Lucina brocchii. A synonym is Venus globosa by Brocchi, a junior homonym of Venus globosa Forsskål, from Red Sea. Other synonyms: fragilis, labelliformis, orbiculata, woodi. « Six species of the upper tertiary level are still extinct; among them, we notice two Lucina globosa: one, mentionned by M. Sismonda
in his Synopsis, as unpublished from the museum of Turin, where it was named by Bonelli ; the second is Defrance’s Globosa, Venus globosa of Brocchi.
We said previously to which species this name of Globosa had to be applied [to the extant species from the Red Sea] ; the two fossil species we are talking about will need to receive
other names: to the first one we give Lucina sismondae ; to the second Lucina Brochii. » – G. P. Deshayes: Traité élémentaire de conchyliologie… vol. I part. ii, Paris 1850. 120m deep, off Málaga, Andalucia, S. Spain. 19mm. |
