Chama asperella Lamarck, 1819
Eastern, northern and western Australia to Midway, Ryūkyū, Indonesia, SE. Africa, Red Sea and E. Mediterranean. Shore reefs and rocky grounds, on intertidal and infralittoral bottoms. Assumed that the taxon Chama aspersa Reeve does not refer to any identifiable species, it is proposed to merge aspersa with asperella, as the shells displayed under these two names seem rather close morphologically. Henk K. Mienis notes that this species, among many others, was collected off the coast of Ašqelōn (W. Israel) after the arrival of an australian gas platform (2003). – Above: a specimen collected at 5m deep, on stone, Fethiye, Muğla Province, SW. Turkey. 24,6mm.
8m deep, on stone, Saronic Gulf, E. Greece. 21,4mm.
