BIVALVIA | LIMOPSIDAE |
At this time, little is known about the specific classification of this family, which is described here under the sole genus Limopsis by its most shared features. |

Limopsis Sassi, 1827:« Rather small, obliquely oval, clams with tufted, velvety brown periostracum. Hinge line curved, with a series of oblique teeth. The hinge resembles that of the Glycymeridae. Ligament external, small, central, triangular. Mostly deep water. » – R. Tucker Abbott: American seashells, New York 1954, p.347. A good discussion about the local species was provided by Rafael La Perna: “Limopsis tenuis Senguenza, 1876, a poorly known Mediterranean Bivalve (Arcoidea, Limopsidae)”, Journal of Conchology vol. 37(1), p.44-46. |
