Vexillum hypatiae (Pallary, 1912)
Eastern Mediterranean, including the SE. Aegean.
Predator in the infralittoral.
Original taxon: Uromitra hypatiae.

« Shell elongated, glossy, with poorly convex stepped whorls that are adorned with very thin longitudinal striae visible under magnification (with the unaided eye the surface looks smooth and shiny). Columella with three plates at the base; internal surface of the labrum ornamented with creases. Colour blackish brown. […] I dedicate this small species to the memory of the Alexandrian scholar whose erudition and tragic death deserve much more than this humble tribute from a naturalist. » – P. Pallary: “Catalogue des mollusques du littoral méditerranéen de l’Égypte”, Mémoires de l’Institut d’Égypte vol. 7(3), Cairo 1914, p.89.

Orange specimen collected at 8m deep, Taşucu, Silifke, Mersin Province, SE. Turkey. 7,5mm. The labial plicae and the dense longitudinal ribbing are typical. Colour variable.
