11m deep, Siracusa, SE. Sicily. 7-8mm.
Philippi’s original description of Trochus leucophaeus is unusable. Hopefully, this author gives a better work in the Systematisches Conchylien-Cabinet Bd.2:Abt.3, Nürnberg 1846: « Shell of of 6,5 whorls, flat and hardly separated from each other; they form a raised cone with a blunter tip, and the last whorl shows a sharp edge other the flat base. The sculpture consists of 6-9 irregular, raised, smooth transverse lines on the upper side, and about eight such concentric ledges on the base. The umbilicus is quite narrow, notably extended, funnel-shaped. The colour is very similar to Tr. villicus no. 235, fig. 17 of this plate. This type, which is most closely related to it, differs from the present type 1) by its shape, 2) by the very flat whorls, 3) by the more numerous transverse ledges, 4) by the narrower umbilicus. »p.195.

G  adriatica has a green blotch near the umbilicus. G. philberti has a flat subsutural shoulder, while leucophaea often shows a suprasutural cord. – Shallow water, in algae, l’Ampolla, Barcelona, Catalunya, NE. Spain. 8-11mm.
On beach, Siracusa, SE. Sicilia. 6,9mm.
