Rissoa frauenfeldiana Brusina, 1866
Adriatic.
Grazer and detritus feeder in the infralittoral.

Close to R. decorata but with stronger longitudinal folds, more convex whorls, and a peculiar pattern. here is the desription given by Brusina: « Shell minute, splendid, turreted, elongate, conical, acuminate, with 10 convex whorls transversely striated by thin dotted streaks; the first 3 whorls are smooth and flat, the following ones are convex, separated from each other by a deep suture, and bear rounded elevate longitudinal costae that look somewhat like knobs; the last whorl is dilated, the aperture is ovate, with a sharp, protruding, violaceous labrum thickened by a white external varice; colour vitreous white with a pattern of intercostal lines, like in Rissoa decorata. » – S. Brusina: “Contribuzione pella fauna dei molluschi dalmati”, Verhandlungen der Kaiserlich-königlichen Zoologisch-botanischen Gesellschaft in Wien vol.16 (supplement), Wien 1866, p.22. – Above and below: 5-6m deep, Muggia, Trieste, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, NE. Italy. 4,3mm.
« Easily distinguishable from decorata by the more turreted and elongate shape, by a larger number of whorls, which are more convex, by the more elevated costae, and by the colour. […] I dedicate this species to the eminent Sig. Cavaliere Giorgio Frauenfeld, coadministrator of the Royal Zoological Museum, secretary of the Royal Society of Zoology & Botany, etc. etc. »Ibid.
