Pseudorhaphitoma iodolabiata (Hornung & Mermod, 1928) |
Red Sea, Eastern Mediterranean. Predator in the infralittoral. Original taxon: Mangilia iodolabiata. Protoconch multispiral, with some wavy axials on the last part. Teleoconch: whorls angular, with about 6-7 orthocline radial folds crossed by two marked spiral cords, or keels, each intersection bearing a nodule. Suture shallow but marked, with a large and sloping subsutural ramp. The first spiral row is the most developped, and runs at the periphery of the whorl. Microsculpture made up of numerous sharp spiral alignments of minute scales. The colour does not vary a lot: from yellowish grey to brownish, sometimes with a lack of colour in the spiral keels. Variations: the shell can be more or less slender. Differences with the genus: the labial denticles are missing, for example in the well formed adult lip of this slender specimen from the Gulf of Iskenderun, SE. Turkey. 5,1mm. |
