Pleurotomella gibbera Bouchet & Warén, 1980 |
![]() |
Madeira to Mediterranean. Predator in the circalittoral, continental shelf and slope. The epithet “gibbera” was proposed by the authors after a name given to this species by Jeffreys in an unpublished work. Whorls convex, with an oblique subsutural ramp; sculpture of strong longitudinal ribs crossed by spiral cords that become more numerous towards the base; the intersections between radial and transversal sculptures give rise to small projections. The subsutural ramp bears a quantity of curved opisthocline growth striae; aperture elongated; labial margin more or less notched adapically, ending along a well developed siphonal canal; columella sinuous and smooth. Small adult from 300-350m deep, Dubrovnik, S. Croatia. 2mm. Original pictures provided by N. Lete (HR). – (CC BY-NC-SA) – |
