Ocenebra nicolai (Monterosato, 1884)
Ionian Sea and Western Mediterranean to Algarve.
Predator on bivalves in the low infralittoral and the circalittoral.
Original taxon: Ocinebrina nicolai.
25-30m deep, off Estepona, Málaga, Andalucia, S. Spain. 12,5mm.
Monterosato characterized this species, « which he originally regarded as a variety of Murex edwardsii, only by comparing it with the later. » (W. Kobelt: Iconographie… p.125): « Dedicated to D. Nicola Tiberi. Species of the Coralligene, albino or slightly banded, close to M. Edwardsii but with a longer and more curved canal, a more marked and circumscribed peristome, a slender shape, subcostulate with prevalent spiral sculpture… » – T. A. di Monterosato: Nomenclatura generica e specifica di alcune conchiglie mediterranee, Palermo 1884, p.112.
