Ocenebra aparicioae Cunningham Aparicio, 2020 |
Hornillo Bay, Águilas, Murcia, S. Spain. Also found at La Calita, Punta de la Mona, east of La Heradura, Granada, Andalucia. Predator in sciaphile and precoralligenous rocky environments. Shell small for the genus (ca. 9mm for the holotype), solid and compact, rhomboid/fusiform, with convex teleoconch whorls, the last one measuring about the 2/3 of the total shell length. Protoconch paucispiral, rounded, of a dark brown color, very finely granulose. Teleoconch « amber yellow with a darker apex and dark brown spots on the tubercles. » Spiral sculpture made up of 6 thick primary cords surrounded by 8 secondary cords that are much weaker. « There are 10 strong axial ribs in the last whorl and strong, thick, smooth and rounded nodes raise above the primary spiral cords when they overlie the axial ribs, giving it a cancellated/mamillated appearance, dark brown coloured, fading in the intercostal space. These tubercles appear also in the secondary cords… » Suture rather shallow for the genus; siphonal canal short, closed by an extension of the columellar callus in adult specimens; aperture narrow, with 5 internal denticles. « The species is dedicated to the author’s mother. » – B.
