Mediterranean and adjacent Atlantic. Predator in the infralittoral (under stones and near Posidonia) and the circalittoral (red coral bottoms). The species is less slender than Mitrella scripta, taller, with a straighter labial margin and more labial teeth (« dentelli interni più piccoli e numerosi » – Chiarelli, Micali & Quadri, 2003), and shows a high variability of colours and patterns. Original taxon: Mitra gervillii. Synonym: Columbella decollata Brusina, as the apex is often missing in adult specimens. 3m deep, under stones, Falasarna bay, W. Crete. 17-18mm. |
