Tyrrhenian Sea, Sicilia, eastern Mediterranean, at least in the low infralittoral. Original taxon: Fossarus petitianus.

The shell differs from those of azoneus and yoidanyi by its elevated spire, a smaller and shallower umbilicus, and by the weaker and more numerous axials. It is also much smalller than adults of azoneus. Protoconch with 8-9 spirals.
