Mangelia unifasciata Deshayes, 1835
Western and central Mediterranean.
Predator in the infralittoral.
Synonyms: alba, aurea, derelicta, rugulosa
Ghjunchitu bay, Isola Rossa, NW. Corsica. 6mm.
Close to paciniana but with an obvious spiral sculpture.
5m deep, Saronikos kolpos, Attikí, SE. Greece. 5,5mm.
« Small shell rather distinct from the other species of the genus; it is elongate, spindle-shaped, with a pointed spire, composed of five to six whorls, on which there are a small number of longitudinal ribs a little oblique and slightly arched in their length; on their middle we see a broad brown fascia, distinctly disposed against the white background of the rest of the surface; the last whorl is attenuated at its extremity and ended with a very short canal; the aperture is extremely narrow, almost linear, white inside; the columella is russet at its extremity; the right edge is thickened inside and out; it is simple, and its notch, narrow and shallow, goes up obliquely. We have seen only a small number of individuals of this species, which seems very rare etc. » – G. P. Deshayes: “Mollusques” in Bory de St-Vincent: Expédition scientifique de Morée sciences physiques vol. III, Paris 1835, p.177.
