Jujubinus tumidulus (Aradas, 1846) |
Sicilian waters. Grazer and deposit feeder, at least in the upper circalittoral. Original taxon: Trochus tumidulus. The shell of this species is stocky, the diameter expanding quickly in the early whorls, and more slowly in the last ones. This shape, « subovato-conica » according to Aradas, recalls that of montagui but the shell is smaller, paler, and the sculpture is very peculiar: the spiral cords are deeply incised by the prosocline furrows, more deeply than in any other mediterranean Jujubinus. The colour is uniform, sandy to yellowish, sometimes very pale, sometimes patterned. Above: 50m deep, Hurds Bank, Sicily Channel. 3mm. Source: gruppomalacologicoscalaria.org.
