NW. England & Belgium to W. Sahara, Mediterranean. Grazer and deposit feeder in the low infralittoral and the circalittoral. Original taxon: Trochus montagui. Synonyms: abanteus, cyrnaeus, parvulus… Spiral sculpture made of six cords per whorl, of equal strength; radial microsculpture made of strong lamellae, prosocline as usual in the genus. The shell is often thin, like in the genus Cantharidus Montfort, into which this species was indeed placed by Fretter & Graham. 30m deep, Estepona, Málaga, Andalucia, S. Spain. 6mm. |
