British Isles to Biafra Bight, Azores to Mediterranean. Predator in the infralittoral. Original taxon: Murex septangularis. Synonyms: ginnania, heptagona, maltzani, rigida… The shell of the true septangularis differs from that of secalina by its protoconch: multispiral in septangularis (more than two whorls before the first radial folds) with a minute egg-shell, vs. paucispiral in secalina with a globose and big starting. Above: 6m deep, Bozcaada island, Çanakkale province, W. Marmara, NW. Turkey. 8,2mm. |
