(?)Eupaludestrina maltzani (Westerlund, 1886) |
Crete and adjacent islands. Grazer and detritus feeder in brackish waters. Original taxon: Paludinella maltzani. The description given by Westerlund is too vague to be really useful. Nota bene that a recent study suggests that the species could be a local variant of E. stagnorum (Szarowska & al., 2014). Above: high-spired specimens from Almyros brackish river, downstream the karst spring, Georgioúpoli, east of Chaniá, NW. Crete. 3,7-4mm. |
The shape can vary considerably within a same population, but the whorls do not seem to be as convex as they can be in E. stagnorum: the subsutural ramp is more sloping. Same spot. 3-3,4mm. |
Same spot. 1,5-2,2-2,5mm. |
