Caribbean, mid-Atlantic seamounts, to central Mediterranean. Original taxon: Coralliophila sentix. Predator on sessile preys in deep water coral environments. Shell medium-sized, solid, slightly umbilicate, strongly carinate at the shoulder of each whorl, where rise some flat triangular extensions that can be true spines, especially in younger specimens. The mediterranean members of this species have received the name of Latiaxis sentix carcassii Nicolay & Angloy, 1985, after specimens found by A. Carcassi of Cagliari, at circa 380m deep. As noted by the authors, there is no difference at all between their subspecies and the original caribbean sentix described by Bayer in 1971. Same spot, young specimen. 25mm.
