Assiminea gittenbergeri
van Aartsen, 2008
Central Mediterranean, from the Gulf of Gabès to the high Adriatic. Deposit feeder in estuarine-brackish waters.

« The shell forms an almost straight sided cone and the whorls are nearly flat. The colour is light yellowish to brownish, the surface being rather shiny and a little transparent. […] This species differs from the well-known Assiminea grayana by the more blunt protoconch and its bigger embryonic whorls. » – J. J. van Aarsten: “The Assimineidae of the Atlantic-Mediterranean seashores”, Basteria vol.72, Leiden 2008, p.169.

Above, a specimen collected near the muddy flats off Grado-Pineta, Gorizia, N. Adriatic. 2,5mm.
