Acrilloscala lamyi (de Boury, 1909) |
Southern Celtic Sea to Western Sahara, to western and central Mediterranean, on the continental shelf and slope. Original taxon: Scala lamyi but the author starts by placing this species in the Acrilloscala group. No synonyms. The shell is compared to that of A. geniculata (Brocchi, 1814): it has « more numerous costae » and the spiral striae are more densely laid (E. de Boury: “Observations sur les Scalidae des expéditions scientifiques du Travailleur et du Talisman”, Bulletin du Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle vol. XV, Paris 1909, p.480-481.) Compared to Epitonium striatissimum (Monterosato, 1878), which it resembles, lamyi is more slender, and does not show the cancellate microsculpture of the former; moreover, some lamellae of lamyi are coalesced into varixes, which are always missing in striatissimum.
