Madeira to Bay of Biscay, to Mediterranean, to Biafra Bight. Circalittoral to continental shelf and upper slope. Original taxon: Scalaria subdecussata. Synonyms: corsicana, distantespirata, plicata, striata… Above: a specimen found in Astropecten at 50-60m deep, La Maddalena islands, Olbia-Tempio, NE. Sardinia. 19mm. Original pictures provided by M. A. Adams describes a Mesalia plicata from Teneriffe: « testa subulato-turrita, rufo-fusca, anfractibus 12 convexiusculis, longitudinaliter plicatis, transversim sulcatis etc. » – A. If the first whorls bear marked longitudinal plicae, the adult ones can show some of these, but uneven in strength and randomly scattered. 50-80m deep, Gulf of Cagliari, S. Sardinia. 18,2mm.
