GASTROPODA | PATELLIDAE |
Shells medium-sized to large, conical, more or less flattened, with an aperture entire that constitutes, basically, the whole teleoconch; the margin conforms to the terrain on which the animal, very sedentary, rests; the sculpture, when it exists, is mainly radial; inside marked by a conspicuous dorsal impression. |

Cymbula H. & A. Adams, 1854:Shell ovate to oblong, not granulose, only radially striated; apex incurved. |

Patella Linnaeus, 1758:Except for Patella pellucida, whose affiliation to the genus is based on anatomical characters, the shells have an outline somewhat angulated, a sculpture made of strong radial costae, and the surface always bears some scales or nodules. |
