Shell small, bulloid, with the spire sunken in the body whorl; apex not umbilicated; sculpture made up of spiral rows of punctuations; spirals slightly grooved near the extremities; aperture as high as the body whorl; posterior terminal narrow, expanding a little beyond the shell; anterior terminal enlarged, especially in the genus Alacuppa; columella smooth; no gizzard plates. |

Roxania Leach, 1847:The species are strictly atlantic. Shell less globose than Alacuppa, similar to those of the pacific genus Mimatys but, unlike the latter, the spiral rows are obsolete to absent in the middle of the shell; columellar callus thin. |
